MICHAEL MOORE – BIOGRAPHY
With culinary experiences acquired from as far apart as Canada, the Far East, Europe and the Caribbean, Michael Moore, Chef Proprietor at Michael Moore of Blandford Street restaurant in London has every right to call his food “modern global”. The English-born chef has already travelled from continent to continent during his long-spanning career. Working in such vastly different gastronomic cultures his creations were bound to be influenced by the diversity of ingredients and national tastes that surrounded him in each continent. “My food is an amalgamation of the experiences and tastes I have acquired from my work abroad”, says the Savoy trained chef. “I’ve always used the local ingredients of the country I was working in – it’s your survival kit.” This combination of such wide-ranging ingredients and national tastes makes Michael’s dishes unique in character and flavour and sets him apart from his peers. Michael has also broken into the world of television, making his UK TV debut live on Gloria Hunniford’s Open House on Channel 5. He fulfilled his ambition of running his own restaurant, when he moved to coolest Marylebone and opened the popular Michael Moore of Blandford Street restaurant. Any Chef would be proud to have a track record like Michael’s. His first big break in the kitchen was as a Chef de Partie/Sous Chef at the Savoy, Strand, under the watchful eye of Anton Edelman. Following his time at the Savoy, Michael took up his first position abroad, at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, Hamburg Germany, which was then the No. 1 Hotel in Europe and No. 3 Hotel in the world as voted by the Institutional Investor before venturing further afield into Switzerland and Canada. Michael came back to Britain, for the pre-opening of the Dorchester. Following his three years at the Dorchester, Michael took on his first position as an Executive Chef at the luxury Island Inn Hotel resort in St. Michael, Barbados, which gave birth to some of his more adventurous dishes. Before moving onto the exclusive Soneva Fushi resort in the Maldives via Berlin’s Intercontinental Hotel. He was lured away from a life of sunshine in the Far East to oversee the opening of the Circle Bar and Restaurant in London’s fashionable Docklands before taking residence as Executive Group Chef for Simpsons of Cornhill, where he was in charge of 14 restaurants including 190 Queensgate in Knightsbridge. Michael lives in North West London with his wife and two children. Since Michael spends most of his time in the kitchen he doesn't have much time for other hobbies, but loves to unwind at Ronnie Scott’s with some cool Jazz music.
